ATLANTA — Sigma Phi Epsilon at UT Martin picked up two awards at the 2020 Carlson Leadership Academy in Atlanta, as undergraduate members and volunteers learned more about their roles in the fraternity and how to help it achieve its goals.
“I learned a lot not only about SigEp, but how to be a better leader and person,” said Vice President of Programming Justyn Johnson (2023). “I’m thankful for all the opportunities that these amazing brothers have given me and will continue to give me.”
SigEp awarded Tennessee Kappa with an Excelsior Award for Recruitment, noting the chapter’s concerted effort to build the chapter through the Balanced Man Scholarship that allowed them to nearly double the chapter’s manpower this past fall.
The Excelsior Awards are presented to chapters that show significant improvement in specific areas of chapter operations. Those areas include, Volunteers, Recruitment, Member Development, Academics, Finances, Risk Management, Housing, Standards & Accountability and Chapter Leadership.
Saturday evening, the Tennessee Kappa Alumni & Volunteer Corp. was presented with an Operational Excellence Award, highlighting the AVC’s work to create a positive environment for our undergraduates and enlisting the support of dedicated volunteers.
“We are very fortunate to have men and women committed to creating the right environments for our members,” said AVC President Stephen Yeargin (2006). “This is a terrific honor for our organization that will motivate us to keep working towards that goal.”
The Alumni and Volunteer Corporation Operational Excellence Award recognizes an Alumni and Volunteer Corporation that, over the previous calendar year, has shown outstanding service with tangible results to an undergraduate chapter and/or excelled in one of the Four Core Areas of an AVC: Mentoring Undergraduates, AVC Cultivation, Asset Management and Corporate Health.
The AVC thanks members of the 1901 Club for their continued support that allowed three additional members to attend this weekend’s Carlson Leadership Academy.
