A strong storm on Sunday, May 3 split a large tree in the front yard and hit the corner of Scholars, puncturing the roof and damaging the interior wall. The building has been vacant since 2015 and there were no injuries. The primary chapter facility next door was not damaged.
Alumni Trey Halterman (1996), Jamie Wagner (1995) and Josh Cooper (2003) drove to Martin the following day to clear off the roof, cover the hole and enlist undergraduate members still in Martin to help clean up the debris.
“Thanks for all of those that took time to come out and assist us today,” said Wagner. “Once again, the brothers of TN Kappa come together.”
The AVC has been working through the financial side of reopening Scholars this fall for residents. It is not yet known how those plans will change because of the storm damage.
